This article describes some of the tools and settings Iterable provides for creating and editing the content you'll send to recipients of a campaign.
NOTE
You can easily edit campaigns that are not actively sending (for example, Draft or Ready status, but not Running status). From the Campaigns index, for the campaign you want to edit, click the overflow menu (three dots) click Edit.

# Campaign content details
The options in the Content area vary, depending on whether you're creating a new campaign or editing an existing one.
- For new campaigns, you'll use this area to select an existing template or start a new design.
- For existing campaigns, you'll see a preview of the currently selected template.
# Selecting an existing template
For new campaigns, choose Browse Templates to select an existing template:
Select an existing template from any of these tabs:
- Templates - All templates for the message medium associated with a campaign.
- Campaign Content - Templates associated with existing campaigns.
- Journey Content - Templates associated with campaigns included in journeys.
When selecting a template, you can:
-
Attach it directly to your campaign.
Select the template you want to use and click Use Selected Template (on the bottom of the page) to create a copy of the template with its own
templateId
and associate it to your campaign. Changes to this template don't affect the original template. -
Attach it to your campaign and resolve data feed references.
For templates with an associated data feed, you can choose to have Iterable resolve data feed references while creating the campaign, rather than at send time. This updates your campaign content to include the latest data feed data, before you even send it — but it doesn't allow for per-user content personalization, since the data feed is called only once (rather than for each user, at send time).
To do this, select the template you want to use, pick a data feed from the Select Data Feed dropdown (in the tile for the selected template), and click Use Selected Template With Data Feed.
Keep in mind:
- This process resolves data feed references denoted by double square
brackets, such as
[[myDataFeedField]]
, and overwrites those references in the campaign content.
- This process doesn't replace data feed references denoted by double curly
braces, like
{{myDataFeedField}}
, which you might see in templates where the Merge the Data Feed and User Contexts option is enabled.
- Data feed references that can't be resolved by the selected data feed are replaced in your campaign content with an empty string.
TIP
To learn how to use data feeds for per-user personalization (calling the data feed for each user at send time, not just once during campaign creation), read Personalizing Templates with Data Feeds.
