Iterable's integration with Facebook lets you export static and dynamic lists from Iterable and create custom audiences in Facebook Ads Manager.
A Facebook Custom Audience is an ad targeting option that lets you find people who interact with your business on Facebook. You can use sources like customer lists, engagement on Facebook, and website or app traffic to create custom audiences.
To learn how to use Facebook Custom Audiences to engage with your users and reach a larger audience, check out How Iterable + Meta Custom Audiences Can Attract New Users.
NOTE
We have updated Iterable's integration with Facebook. If you're connecting your Facebook ad account for the first time, use the instructions below. If you have an existing Facebook integration with Iterable, you don't have to make any changes right now.

Permissions and requirements
Before you connect your Iterable project to Facebook, you'll need to:
Have admin or advertiser permissions for the Facebook account, or be the account owner.
Accept the Custom Audience terms of service for your Facebook ad account. (On your Facebook business page, go to All tools > Ads Manager > Audiences.)
Setting up the Facebook + Iterable integration
Follow these steps to connect your Iterable and Facebook ad accounts:
Navigate to Integrations > Facebook.
Click Connect to Facebook.
-
If prompted, enter your Facebook credentials and log in.
NOTE
You may be asked to grant permission to Facebook's Ads Manager. You only have to do this once per Facebook account.
-
Select the ad account(s) you want to add to Iterable, and click Submit.
You should be all set! If you need to, you can come back and connect more ad accounts later.
TIP
You may want to locate your Facebook ad account ID(s) so you know which accounts you're connecting to Iterable. To find these IDs:
Log in to your Facebook account.
Go to your business page.
Navigate to Ads Manager and make note of the ad account ID you're going to use.
For more help finding your Facebook ad account ID, check out Find Your Facebook ad account ID in the Meta Business Help Center.
Exporting an Iterable list to Facebook
Once you've connected your Facebook ad account to Iterable, you can start exporting your Iterable lists to Facebook Custom Audiences. (Keep in mind: In order for users to be added to a Facebook Custom Audience, their email address must be associated with a Facebook account.)
When you export a list to Facebook, Iterable passes only the email
field
(hashed using SHA256, following Facebook's API requirements).
To export a list from Iterable to Facebook:
Navigate to Audience > Lists.
Click the list you want to export.
-
Choose Export As > Facebook Custom Audience.
Use the dropdown to select a Facebook ad account ID.
-
Enter the Audience Name and Audience Description. (This will show up in your Facebook Custom Audience account.) Click Export.
-
In your Facebook ad account, go to Audiences (or refresh your page if you're already there). It may take a few minutes for the list to update.
NOTE
If you export the same list twice using the same name, it will create a second Facebook Custom Audience. (The first one is not overwritten.)
Using Facebook Custom Audiences in journeys
You can use a Facebook audiences tile to add users to or remove them from a Facebook Custom Audience when they reach that stage of the journey. (You must have a Facebook ad account to use this tile.)
When you select an ad account in the Facebook Custom Audience tile, make sure the ID matches an ad account created using Iterable's segmentation tool (a list exported to Facebook). If you select an ID for an ad account originally created in Facebook, the journey tile may not be able to update the ad account.
Troubleshooting
Why can't I export users to a Custom Audience?
If you have successfully added an ad account but can't export users to a Custom Audience, make sure that:
The ad account is linked to a business account in Facebook.
You have accepted the Custom Audience terms of service for the ad account in Facebook. On your business page, click All tools > Ads Manager > Audiences.
