Follow these directions if you are transitioning off an existing email service onto the Iterable platform. This is assuming you will be importing users into Iterable through the UI with CSV list uploads.
Export all users from your existing email service. If you were using Mailchimp, you will need to export all lists, since Mailchimp does not have the concept of a master list that includes all users across all lists.
-
To import your list(s) of active users into Iterable, go to Audience > Lists, click New List, and select Import Users. Import your CSV file(s) as static lists, following the steps in Adding Users and Creating Lists.
The list import operation loads your subscribers into Iterable and creates new user profiles for users that do not yet exist in your project.
Export all hard bounces and unsubscribes from your existing service. Hard bounces are old, outdated, or misspelled email addresses that are no longer in use.
-
To unsubscribe hard bounced and unsubscribed emails from a channel in Iterable, go to Audience > Lists and click the overflow menu (three dots). Under Manage Users, select Unsubscribe from Channel.
Select the channels that you want to unsubscribe users from. Unsubscribe them from all channels if you do not want them to receive any communication from you. Unsubscribe them from just the marketing channels if you do not want them to receive promotional messages, but still want them to receive transactional messages.
As with the list import functionality, it's possible to enter hard-bounced and unsubscribed users into a free text field (like above) or upload a CSV file.
You can unsubscribe a single user for a single channel, or multiple users from multiple channels simultaneously (to unsubscribe the same list of users from the same channels).
Turn on Trigger journey entries and exits with this import if you'd like to add these users to any journeys that use the Unsubscribe from Channel entry source and are linked to your selected channels.
Submit the update. These users will no longer be subscribed to the selected channels.
