The Knak + Iterable integration lets you build on-brand email designs in Knak and easily import them to Iterable as templates.
# Setup instructions
# In Iterable
# Create an API key
- Go to Integrations > API Keys.
- Click New API Key.
- Give your API key a name (for example, "Knak Integration") and select Server-side.
- Click Create.
- Copy the API key to your clipboard.
IMPORTANT
API keys are only visible the first time you create them. Make sure to immediately copy the key and store it somewhere secure. If you lose it, you won't be able to retrieve it—you'll have to create a new one.
# In Knak
# Enable the integration
-
Go to Admin > Integrations > Platforms.
Find the Iterable tile and click Connect.
Give the integration a name, and enter the API key you created in Iterable earlier.
-
Select the Iterable data center that corresponds to your project.
Click Create New Integration.
# Importing templates from Knak to Iterable
In order to import templates to Iterable from Knak, you first need to ensure your brand's sender details (From Name, Reply-To Email, etc.) in Knak match what you have configured in your sender list in Iterable. To view and update your Iterable sender list, click the gear icon in the top-right corner of Iterable, then select Senders.
# Syncing new templates
- In Knak, go to Studio and select the template you want to sync to Iterable.
- Click Publish > Sync.
# Updating existing templates
In Knak, go to Studio and select the template you want to update in Iterable.
Click Publish > Resync.
-
From here, you have two options:
- Update Email — Saves your changes to the existing template.
- Sync as New Email — Saves your changes to a copy of the template.
You must include an unsubscribe link in every Marketing message that you send with Iterable. When you initiate a sync, Knak displays an error message if your template is missing an unsubscribe link.
When a sync is unsuccessful, a blank template is created on the Templates page. If one of your syncs fails, we recommend manually deleting the blank template to keep your Templates library organized.
# Viewing and sending synced templates in Iterable
When you import an email template from Knak, you'll find the synced template in Iterable under Content > Templates. You can attach the template to a campaign and send it to your recipients when you're ready.
If you need to edit a template before sending it in a campaign, you should do so in Knak, not Iterable. With this integration, it's only possible to send data from Knak to Iterable (not vice versa), so editing a synced template in Iterable causes inconsistencies and lost data. See Updating Existing Templates to learn how to update and resync templates using this integration.
