Creating an Experiment

You can create an experiment while you're creating a new campaign or as a separate task for an existing campaign.

TIP

While you can create an experiment from a campaign that's running, it's generally best not to do so as it decreases the fidelity of the data that's available for you to analyze when the experiment concludes.

Create an experiment for a new campaign

To create an experiment for a new standalone or journey campaign, create the campaign as you normally would, and then:

  1. From the Campaign design page, under Conversions and Experiments, click Edit and Add experiment.

  2. On the New Experiment page, use the default (campaign) name, or provide an Experiment Name that makes this experiment easy to search for and identify among others.

  3. Select the experiment Type. This option is used for all of the variants you create for a given experiment. For more information about variant types, see Planning an Experiment.

  4. Click Create experiment.

  5. Create campaign variants as described in Creating Campaign Variants.

NOTE

You must select a conversion event when you set up your campaign if you're going to include a holdout group in an experiment.

Create an experiment with an existing campaign

There are two ways you can create an experiment for a campaign that's in the Draft or Ready state.

  1. Navigate to Messaging > Experiments and click New Experiment.

  2. Click Choose campaign to the right of the campaign associated with this experiment or search for the campaign you want by name or campaign ID.

  3. On the New Experiment page, use the default (campaign) name, or provide an Experiment Name.

  4. Select the experiment Type. This option is used for all of the variants you create for a given experiment. For more information about variant types, see Planning an Experiment.

  5. Click Create experiment.

  6. Create campaign variants as described in Creating Campaign Variants.

To add an experiment to an existing campaign from the Campaign window, navigate to Messaging > Campaigns and open the campaign associated with this experiment. Then, follow the steps for Create an experiment for a new campaign.

TIP

You can also create an experiment when editing a campaign in a journey tile.
