See Where Snippets Are Used

# Introduction

If you’re using snippets in your project, you may want to see all the places that a particular snippet is being used.

This is especially helpful if you’re planning to delete a snippet and want to make sure that doing so won’t impact any of your active campaigns.

With the snippet finder feature, you can search for a snippet by name and see a list of all the templates, campaigns, and other snippets where that snippet is used.

# Location icon

When you see this icon next to an Iterable resource (like a snippet), it means you can see a list of everywhere that resource is used in your Iterable project.

# Finding your snippet's locations

First, navigate to the Content > Snippets page.

1. On the Snippets page, find the snippet you want to search for and click the overflow menu (three vertical dots).
2. In the overflow menu, click Where is this used. This will take you to the Locations page, where you can see a list of all the places your selected snippet is used.

# Using the Locations page

The Locations page shows a list of all the templates, campaigns, and snippets that reference your selected snippet, as well as their:

• Name (click a template name to open it in a new tab)
• ID
• Medium (SMS or email, for example)
• Type (template or campaign, for example)
• Status
• Last modified date/time

At the top of the page, you'll see the name of your selected snippet. If you want to select a different snippet, click See all snippets to return to the snippets overview page.

# Status column

The Status column shows the status of the campaign that the snippet is tied to. For example, a template row on this page might show the status of Inactive. This just means that the template is not currently being used in a campaign or journey.

# Filtering and exporting locations

To filter the results by campaign status, click the Filters button at the top of the page.

You can also export the table of results to a CSV file using the Export button.

# Limitations of the beta

Right now, we can't return location search results if:

• A snippet is only being used in a project setting field
• A snippet is only being used in a non-default locale
• Lookup takes longer than 30 seconds. This is most likely to occur when a project has a high amount of campaigns. We recommend retrying the search if you get a timeout error. Repeat errors mean that results may be too large for us to return at this time.

Why is it taking a while to load my results?

It can take a minute or two for all your results to load, as we search through all of your snippets.

What does it mean when I see "Snippet" as a location result?

The snippet finder tool searches through your snippets to find any references to the selected snippet in other snippets. This can help you determine if you have any nested snippets.

Click the parent snippet name in your search results to see where it is referenced in templates and campaigns.

What does the snippet finder tool search for?

The snippet finder tool searches your templates, campaigns, and snippets. We look for snippets referenced in:

• Email (HTML, subject, preheader, fromName)
• In-App (HTML, payload)
• SMS (message)
• Push (title, payload, message)
• Web Push (title, body)
• Snippets (content)

Why can't I see which journeys reference my snippet?

As we continue to work on and improve this feature, we hope to add support for additional snippet locations (like journeys). Check back soon!
