Project members are the people who work on your Iterable projects. They can be assigned to one or more projects and have different roles in each project.
In this article
Required permissions
There are two permissions that permit managing members:
- Org administrator role (full access to all org settings and all projects)
- Manage Members org permission (some actions are restricted)
Identifying members
Iterable identifies members by their email address.
Each email address can be associated with only one organization in Iterable. If a member needs to access more than one Iterable organization, they must have a separate email address to use for each member account.
TIP
To create multiple accounts for an individual (for example, if you have more than one Iterable org), consider using sub-addressing if your company's email service supports it. This involves adding a plus sign and a string in your email alias to create unlimited custom email addresses that send to a member's inbox. (This is also called plus addressing.)
For example, a member with the email member@example.com
can use a sub-address
of member+iterable1@example.com
to sign up for one organization and
member+iterable2@example.com
to sign up for another organization.
To learn more, read Sub-addressing (Wikipedia).
Managing members in an organization
To go to the Organization Members screen, click the Settings button in the top-right corner of Iterable and click Organization Members.
Adding members to an organization
Step 1: Create a new member
To add a new member your organization:
Go to Settings > Organization Members
Click New Member.
-
In the New Member form, enter a First Name, Last Name, and Email address.
-
Select an org role:
Admin: Full access to all org settings and all projects.
-
Member: Access to projects based on project roles. Access to org settings based on org permissions that you can set in this form.
If you selected Member as the org role, select Org Permissions as needed.
To learn more about org roles, read Permissions for Using Iterable.
- Click Create Member.
Next steps depend on the user's org role:
Member: First add the member to a project. Then, send an invitation to log in to Iterable and complete enrollment.
Admin: To complete enrollment, send them an invitation to log in to Iterable.
Step 2: Add the member to a project
To add a new member to at least one project:
-
From the Organization Members screen, click on the member's name to open the Member Details screen.
Below their name, you'll see a list of all projects that exist in your organization.
For each project you want to assign, click Add to Project.
In the Add to Project window, select a Role for the member in the project.
Click Add to Project.
Repeat this process for each project you want to assign the member to.
NOTE
This step is not required for org admins. Org admins have access to all projects by default and don't need to be assigned to projects.
Step 3: Send an invitation
When a new member is added to an organization, their account isn't activated. To complete account activation, the member must be added to a project and confirm their email address.
Once you've added a member to a project, you can send them an invitation email to log in to Iterable. If the member doesn't receive the email, you can resend the invitation.
To invite a member to log in to Iterable from either the Member Details screen or Organization Members, click on the overflow menu (three dots) next to the member's name and select Send Invitation.
This option is only available for members who haven't logged in yet.
Changing member details and org permissions
You can edit the following details for a member:
- First Name
- Last Name
- Org Role (Admin or Member)
- Org Permissions (if the member is not an org admin)
A member's email address cannot be changed. Instead, create a new member.
To change a member's details from either the Member Details screen or Organization Members screen:
Click on the overflow menu (three dots) next to the member's name and select Edit Member.
Update the member's details as needed.
Click Save.
IMPORTANT
The email address for a member's account can't be changed. If someone's email address is changing, sometimes IT admins can maintain an existing address as an alias so you can continue logging in to Iterable. If not, you should create a new Iterable member with the same permission set.
Resetting a password
To reset a member's password from either the Member Details screen or Organization Members, click on the overflow menu (three dots) next to the member's name, and select Reset Password.
This option is only available for members who log in with an email and password.
Removing members from an organization
Revoking a member's access from an Iterable organization prevents them from logging in to that organization or viewing any of its data.
To remove one or many members from an organization:
Use the checkboxes to select all members to remove.
Click Revoke Access.
On the Revoke Access window, review the member(s) to revoke access for, and click Revoke.
Managing members in projects
To log in, every member must be added to at least one project. Members can be added to multiple projects, and can have different role for each project.
From the PRoject Members screen, you can manage all members of a specific project.

To add multiple members to a project at once:
Open the project in question and navigate to its Project Members screen.

NOTES
If you're experiencing issues where your projects and/or permissions continue to change after your Iterable org admin has updated them, please check with your IT admin. Your organization may be using SSO for authorization.
Organizations that use SAML for authorization must make changes to project
and role assignments in their IdP, not in Iterable.
Approved Support Contacts (ASCs) in Iterable
Account members who are identified as an ASC in Iterable are able to submit tickets for additional support from conversations they have with the in-app chatbot. There is no way to add a member as an ASC to your account in the Iterable interface. If you need to add or remove an ASC from your account, contact your customer success manager.
