Once visitors meet some of your profile creation criteria, Iterable assigns a temporary user ID (and email, when required) and adds them to your project as an unknown user so they can start receiving messages. To send messages to users who've been added to your project from Unknown User Activation, create lists that are based on values that are true for these users.

# Sending unknown users different messages than new users
Users who enter journeys with a New User Created entry source automatically receive new user messages, but if you want to send unknown users different messages than you send to new users who are known, create a list of unknown users from the Segmentation window:
On the Unknown User Criteria page, to the right of the criteria for which you want to create a user list, choose View in Segmentation from the overflow (three dots) menu.
-
In the Segmentation window, set the
itblInternal.isUnknownUserfield toTrue. Click View results to generate a list of the users who meet this criteria, then click Save as to save a dynamic or static list, or to export the list as a CSV file or Facebook Custom Audience (if enabled).
You can use this list to send campaigns to users who've been converted from
visitor to unknown-user status. Once unknown users are converted to known users,
the value of this field will be False.
# Finding unknown users who satisfy a criteria set
To message unknown users who satisfy a certain set of criteria, find the ID for the criteria set you want to use in Audience > Unknown User Activation, and create a segment like the one shown here.
Choose Audience > Segmentation.
-
In the Segmentation window, set up a query that searches for users with the
itblInternal.matchedCriteriaIduser profile field equal to the appropriate ID (in this case,506). Click View results to generate a list of the users who meet this criteria, then click Save as to save a dynamic or static list, or to export the list as a CSV file or Facebook Custom Audience (if enabled).
You can use this list to send campaigns to users who've been added to your Iterable project because they satisfied the criteria set you specified.
