Types of templates
You can create five different types of templates in Iterable. To learn about their options and how to set them up, read:

To view your organization’s templates, navigate to Content > Templates.
The Templates page is your home base for creating, viewing, and managing the templates you use to build messages in Iterable. From this page, you can:
- View templates (but content you've already customized and associated with specific campaigns). You can view templates in list view and card view.
- Create and import new templates.
- Search, sort, and filter your templates.
- Preview templates before sending them to your customers.
- View the revision history for a template.
- Copy, export, and delete templates.
- Organize your templates into folders.
List view and card view
By default, templates appear in list view. To switch to card view, click the grid button. (Your selection is saved for your next session.)
To view a template used in a campaign, navigate to Messaging > Campaigns and open the campaign you're interested in.
To view a template used in a journey, navigate to Messaging > Journeys. Open the list of campaigns associated with the journey, and select the campaign you're interested in.
Sorting your templates
You can sort your templates by name, medium, or last modified date. To sort in list view, click the table headers. To sort in card view, click into the Sort by box and select an option from the drop-down.
Searching your templates
To search your templates by name, subject, or template ID, use the search input. The templates list automatically refreshes to return templates that match your search term.
Filtering your templates
To filter your templates by channel, click one of the tabs in the upper-left corner of the page. You can choose between All, Email, In-App, SMS, Push, and Web Push.
To apply more filters (like Created by), click Filters and select some options.
When you apply multiple filters, results will match at least one of the filters you’ve selected—not necessarily all of them.
The search bar and filters work in tandem, so you can search within a filtered subset of your templates.
For example, let’s say you want to find all of your holiday marketing email templates. To do this, select the Email tab in the top left of the page, click the Filters button and select Message type > Marketing, then type “holiday” in the search bar.
To delete a template, click the overflow menu button and select Delete from the drop-down. Be careful! This permanently deletes your template. You can't recover deleted templates.
To delete multiple templates, select the templates you want to delete and click the Delete. In list view, use the checkboxes in the left column. In card view, use the checkboxes in the corner of each card.
To copy a template to another project, you'll need the Create and Manage Templates permission in both projects.
There are various ways to copy a template:
With a template open, click the overflow button and then Save as new template.
On the Templates page, in list view, click the overflow button for a given template and then Make a copy.
On the Templates page, in card view, hover over a template and click Make a copy.
Choose Current project or Another project. If you're copying to another project, select the destination project. Some templates require a verified sender in each project, so make sure the destination project is set up with one before copying to it.
Provide a name for the new template, and click Save template.
Copying campaign content
You can copy a campaign's content and save it as a new template. This allows you to find it on the Content > Templates page, making it easy to reuse with other campaigns. You can give the copied template a unique name, and it gets a unique template ID.
Navigate to Messaging > Campaigns and open the campaign.
Click the template name on the Campaign Review page. This is optional and depends on the campaign's state.
On the Design step, click the overflow menu and Save as new template.
Organizing your templates into folders
To group similar templates together on the Templates page, use folders.
To create a folder, click the New folder button at the top of the page.
Give your folder a name (like
Sales & Promotions). Then, click Create folder.
Add some templates to your new folder.
To move a single template into a folder, click the overflow menu (three dots) for the template you want to move and select Move to folder from the drop-down menu.
To move multiple templates into a folder at once, use the checkboxes to select the templates you want to move, then click Move to folder.
- Folders can only be used to group resources of the same type (you can’t add templates, campaigns, and journeys to the same folder). You’ll have a separate set of folders for your Templates, Campaigns, and Journeys pages.
- You can nest folders up to 10 levels deep.
- Folder names can be up to 150 characters.
- When you search your templates list, the search results include any folders that match your search terms.
